What are Adam's Strengths
I would like to create a list of strengths that we see in Adam that he can build on.
This is a spot to share events that Adam has enjoyed. It is also a place where I will share what I am concerned about and struggling with.
4 Comments:
-Adam can count
-Adam can figure out electronics, palm pilots, DVD’s, video games, photo-copier…
-Adam is great at using a digital camera and has learned to crop the picture using photo editing software
-Adam is happy
-Adam loves to pretend his favorite movie or cartoon
-He can get around a computer.
-He can search the internet for subjects he is interested in
-He thinks in pictures - http://www.autism.org/temple/tips.html
-He is kind to bugs
-He can make his own ketchup sandwich (also peanut-butter-and-a-TON-of-honey sandwich)
-He can jump on a trampoline
-He can bathroom himself
-He can cook hamburgers with very limited supervision. (calls them Krabby Patties)
-He can accept a predefined agenda (one school, two mommy’s house, three sleep, four daddy’s house, five school…)
-He can swim effectively – and he can swim underwater. He loves the water.
-He is beginning to read (present skill level could be better defined)
-He has learned his way around the keyboard (beginning to type)
-He knows the alphabet and the sounds
(it is strange, I am sure I will come up with a lot more over time, but I am very disappointed with what I have noticed so far. I am also disappointed that I have not nurtured more definable skills…)
That is great, my nephew is 7 and is autistic. But he can not nearly do so much.
Adam has an incredible sense of humor! This is a tremendous trait to possess.
He also is very focused on what he wants and often is willing to stand up for himself (to much of this would mean a spoiled Adam. But I don't want to squelch his spirit, just keep it in balance).
